Putting alternatives in place

In this short video from the panel discussion at the recent Citywire Virtual South Africa event, fund selectors look at the role that alternatives played in their portfolios in the Covid-19 crash.

Putting alternatives in place

A poll conducted at the recent Citywire South Africa Virtual event found that local fund selectors make use of a broad selection of alternative asset classes in their portfolios. This has been particularly useful in the market turmoil of this year.

‘If we look at unlisted debt, infrastructure and private equity, the unlisted nature means that you naturally get the smoothing effect, because you don’t have an instrument that is priced on a daily basis,’ said Claire Rentzke, CIO at Sukha & Associates.

In this short video, Rentzke, together with Adriaan Pask, CIO of PSG Wealth, and Lebo Thubisi, head of manager research at Alexander Forbes Investments, discuss where alternatives add value, and where they might not.
