The multi-asset high equity funds with the highest inflows

Citywire analyses the funds in the ASISA South Africa multi-asset high equity category with the highest inflows over the past 12 months.

For most of the past decade, multi-asset high income funds attracted the bulk of inflows into local unit trusts. More recently, however, those flows have slowed.

In the second quarter of 2020, this category actually experienced net outflows.

This makes it particularly interesting to analyse which funds have continued to attract significant inflows over this period. And a few things certainly stand out.

The first is that three of the 10 funds with the highest inflows are passive balanced portfolios – the Nedgroup Investments Core Diversified fund, the 10X High Equity Index fund, and the Prescient Balanced fund.

The Nedgroup Investments Core Diversified fund actually tops the list overall, showing net inflows of R3.32bn over the year. This is almost R1bn more than the fund below it.

The Prescient Balanced fund, which is tenth on the list, received net inflows of R538m. This represents a more than doubling in size for this portfolio for the year.

The second thing worth noting is that only one of this category’s three giant funds makes it onto the list of highest inflows – the Ninety One Opportunity fund. Just as notably, the other two – the Allan Gray Balanced and Coronation Balanced Plus funds – saw the highest and second highest net outflows respectively.
